Carotid Intima-Media Thickness Ultrasound
This is commonly referred to as a CIMT, which stands for Carotid Intima-Media Thickness.
Here we capture a total of 4 ultrasound images to evaluate the presence of plaque and to measure the thickness of the intima-media layer (on both sides).
For reference, consider your artery is a paper towel roll (show, should have one near CIMT equipment). The intima-media layer is the innermost layer of the artery, so like the cardboard part of the paper towel roll.
In cases with poor lipid management, inflammation, years of unhealthy habits, etc. - this innermost layer of the vessel can become thicker over time, to the point where it may rupture into the lumen or the inside of the vessel. From there, clots may form, potentially leading to plaquing and occlusion of the artery.
By identifying personal risk, Cenegenics physicians can identify the treatment method that is most suitable for the client, as it could range from lifestyle efforts, nutraceutical use, or potentially prescription therapy.
